2013 in sight, various speculations and predictions about the smartphone trend began to emerge. According to a recent report, some of the major players in the smartphone market has big plans for 2013. Is it?
Samsung, Sony, LG, Huawei and ZTE plans to launch a smartphone with 5-inch full HD display next year. Although not much information is revealed, but expected the handset will begin to be released in the first half of 2013.
Samsung and LG are expected to produce the panels themselves, while Sony Mobile will get it from Japan Display (JDI). Vendor-based smartphone in China and Taiwan can buy a full HD panel of JDI, Sharp or LG. If the rumors are correct, manufacturers will follow in the footsteps of vendors such as HTC and Sharp.
HTC has just launched Butterfly smartphone with full 5 inches HD display panels equipped with JDI 440 pixels per inch. Sharp Aquos SH930W also released earlier this year which is equipped with a 5-inch panel and 443 pixels per inch. Not to forget, ZTE also helped to enliven the competition with the Grand S which will be debuted at CES 2013.
The report is in line with plans announced earlier this year by Japan Display. In October, the company revealed that the joint venture made up of Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi will begin mass production of 5-inch screen 1080-pixel for smartphones in the future.
While some new manufacturers will begin to implement it, Samsung is not a new player on the larger screen smartphones. Recently they launched the Galaxy Note 2 with 5.5 inch OLED screen. Be prepared for large screen smartphones next year folks!
